It makes me very happy indeed to be able to say that we are finally back online. After an extended period of hibernation we're back with a new strategy, new site design, new logo and new music just around the corner. There are several announcements that we've been holding back until the site was ready, read on to find out more.
First up, we've decided the time is right to explore some carefully considered commercial avenues. That means all our releases from here on in are going to be available in physical form, produced to the highest standard and available in good quantities. You will be able to purchase physical and digital goods directly through this site, as well as in select independent stores worldwide.
We will no longer offer all our music for free download, but for those willing to invest some time in the project, free downloads and other assorted good-stuff will become available over time. We have also started a new side-project called "Forecasts", this will be an ongoing mix-tape series put together by various friends and contributors. The first of these, "Reintroduction" is online now and contains previously unreleased material from Nest, 1000 Hours of Staring, Stephane Leonard and Michael Trommer. We also present exclusive tracks from Segue and Pine who we're very happy to have on-board.
The second piece of news is that our 'first' release is to be a reissue of Nest's self-titled 2007 EP. This will contain the original six pieces as well as several new, unreleased tracks, doubling the length of the original release. The tracks will be professionally (re)mastered and beautifully packaged along with new artwork. We have not set a release date for the album yet, but hope to take pre-orders at the beginning of November.
That's all for now, we realise the site is a little sparse at the moment, but we will be padding it out with new pages and features in the coming weeks. Your comments and feedback are most welcome, please register to get started!

Well, I'm in the process of listening to the Forecast. Sounds really good, I really like the 1000 Hours of Staring track "Deliverence". Welcome back again.

Hello,
It's a real pleasure to see you back online !
The forcast reminds me how precious you are on the musical "webspace".
FYI, it seems that the Forecasts RSS link (http://www.serein.co.uk/forecasts/feed) doesn't respond.
Take care,
Fred.

Thanks Fred - seems like I forgot to re-enable the plugin associated with that feed after the last update. Glad the forecast is being enjoyed!

Hello Huw,
sorry for not writing sooner... It's nice to see you online again!
There was so much enthusiasm in the first comments. But I'm a little bit anxious about not having the possibility to listen to the music before buying it. Although most of the serein stuff is excellent, I wouldn't buy some (at least three) of the older releases. Although I can see your motives, I'll miss the availability of the complete mp3 albums.
The forecast is nice, but it's not very convenient to split it into single parts to see the information while playing it on a mobile unit. So I'm forced to listen to it on my computer (or print the info from the website).
Please don't consider this as nagging, I just try to give a constructive feedback. As being a great fan of 1000 Hours Of Staring, Herzog, Muhr and - yes - Nest I'm curious for the next time.
Best wishes,
Thorsten
PS: Some information got lost. Do you still have the list of links somewhere? I've found 12rec in that list and I'm now a regular customer...

Hi Thorsten -

You will be able to listen to it, just not in its entirey. Please don't be anxious.

I'm not asking you to buy them.

Does travelling without a tracklist also make you anxious?
Do you still have the list of links somewhere?
I'm afraid not, most were outdated.
Unfortunately I can't please everyone all of the time, hopefully you can learn to live with the changes and see the positive aspects of our new approach - and I'm sure you will when you see and hear Nest / Retold and everything that follows. Please take my response in the lighthearted manner it is intended ;)

I've been thinking about the point made by Thorsten above regarding not being able to hear the full releases prior to buying. I am considering making our releases available on-demand via Last FM, would this be a good compromise?

Hello Huw,
thanks for your reply.
How do you make quotes italic?
>I'm not asking you to buy them.
Of course. Maybe it's a misunderstanding. The sentence "That means all our releases from here on in are going to be available in physical form" sounds like you'll offer them for sale. And then I have to decide "Yes" or "No" for every future release. The music on Serein is 70% great, so it *is* a question of choice. Otherwise (less than 20% great music) I'd stay away, but you'll not get rid of me that easy ;-).
>Does travelling without a tracklist also make you anxious?
I'm a knowledge maniac and I'm shivering, whenever I listen to something and don't know what it is. No, seriously: I don't know, if "anxious" is the right word for it (I'm not a native English speaker...). When I have this long music track and there are unreleased parts, I'd love to identify what is what. For the question of choice, see above.
>I am considering making our releases available on-demand via Last FM, would this be a good compromise?
Yes, but only if it's not just for pleasing *me*.

Thorsten, what I meant is that all the future releases are going to be available in physical form. By reading between the lines you should realise that we're making quite a step up from our previous incarnation here. There are several of the archived releases which I wouldn't have considered for a physical release - make of that what you will.
I've put a huge amount of my own time (and money) into the label over the past few months, and I'm not about to follow it up with second rate music. Understand that I'm not referring to our archived material as second rate, I'm just trying to stress that I have a different agenda now than I did in 2005.
I'm not sure if you've understood the idea behind the Forecasts - these are nothing more than regular podcasts, single MP3s have been standard fare here for some time. I can appreciate you may want to single out tracks, but we're on safer ground using a mix-tape approach when later down the line we start featuring tracks from other labels.
Hope this goes some way to allaying your fears!
By the way - these input fields take HTML code so you can italicise text by wrapping it in <em>your text</em> tags
